This is the first of the "shed finds" - carefully stashed in my father-in-law’s garden for the past 30 years! It is a lovely old-school Freddie Grubb racer, handcrafted in East London with the finest Italian lugs!
It was originally rendered in two (not altogether complimentary) shades of green - given that someone may occasionally wish to ride it in public I have had it resprayed in two-tone grey (yes, most architects believe that grey is a colour...)
The majority of its parts were missing, but I have tried to re-use what was left (providing it was salvageable). In the spirit of the original most of the components are European, but a few Japanese parts have appeared where there was a persuasive cost or quality argument. The best bits are some S/H, but very shiny Campag Strada cranks, a complete NOS Campag gearset, still-good Weinmann centre-pull brakes and the original, curvy old GB Maes bars.
Once again I appear to be pursuing something of a leather fetish, but a vintage British racer just isn't right without a smattering of Brooks, is it? In this instance its "antique brown" - nothing too gauche for the old girl, nicely worn in and whatnot...
...accessories (bell, cage, bottle) are "model's own" and not included in the sale, but you can find some of them on my Bits page if you're interested.
And how I found it...
