Raleigh FMX (58cm)
Christened the FMX, this a funked-up version of your Dad’s old Raleigh racer which is languishing in the shed outside.
It is intended to show what you can do if you are after a streetable fixie (on a fairly limited budget) and don’t want to settle for one of the mass-produced offerings from the big manufacturers.
We got slightly carried away, so spec includes hand-built Deep-V wheels (with crows-foot lacing), used Campag Croce D’aune cranks, NOS Gipiemme Alloy Headset, Azonic riser bars and a NOS Turbo saddle.
There is a strong ‘small wheels’ influence too, with a ‘gen-er-whine’ BMX seatpost, white BMX chain and NOS Shimano BMX hubs. The latter are converted to fixed in Sheldon’s own style with a LocTite’d BB ring, although we can fit a BMX freewheel if you’d prefer...
